  • Volunteer Opportunities (please check all that interest you):

  • Design improves the downtown’s image by enhancing it’s all-around physical appearance. Design activities include: instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district, enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, and long-term planning.

    Promotion markets the downtown’s unique characteristics to shoppers, investors, new businesses,tourists, and others. Promotion activities include: advertising, retail promotional activity, special events (Feast of the Seven Fishes, Tour de Chocolate, etc.), and marketing campaigns. These activities create a positive image of the downtown, improve consumer and investor confidence in the district, and encourage commercial activity and investment in the area.

    Organization builds consensus and cooperation among the various stakeholders, divides the workload, and clearly delineates responsibilities. Organization activities include: getting organizations, businesses, residents, investors, etc. working toward the same goal and assembling the appropriate human and financial resources.

    Economic Restructuring strengthens a community’s existing economic assets, while diversifying its economic base. Economic restructuring activities include: helping existing downtown businesses expand, recruiting new businesses to provide a balanced mix, converting unused space into productive property, and sharpening the competitiveness of downtown merchants. These activities build a well-rounded commercial district that responds to today’s consumers’ needs.
