Hometown Market- Fifteenth Annual Tomato Festival
Main Street Fairmont is excited to bring you another fun-filled Hometown Market! This month we are partnering with the Marion County Master Gardeners for the 15th Annual Tomato Festival. Come out and taste-test the best tomatoes in the area, grown by local gardeners! If tomatoes aren't enough, shop from our 40+ local artisan vendors, grab a tomato sandwich from the Girl Scouts, or take a bite from the Glen Elk Boys Food Truck!
If you'd like to enter your own tomatoes into the competition for cash prizes and the titles of the best tasting, most unusual, and largest tomato, bring your entries to the Marion County Convention and Visitors Bureau on August 16th from 4-6 PM. The Master Gardeners are asking you to bring 5-6 Large Tomatoes and/or 30-40 cherry tomatoes. Loving WV will be providing door prizes for the first 25 entries!!Join us August 17th on Monroe Street from 9 AM- 3 PM to enjoy all the Tomato Festival has to offer!
Two/Two/Eight Summer Market Series
In conjunction with all of our Hometown Markets , Two/Two/Eight Gallery will also be hosting their own series of vendor markets, making Downtown Fairmont an absolute can't-miss destination every 3rd Saturday of the month!
Hometown Christmas Market Kick-Off Meeting
This year's Hometown Holiday Celebration, featuring the Christmas Tree Lighting, the Hometown Christmas Market, and the 18th Annual Feast of the Seven Fishes Festival, will take place during the first and second weekends of December.As we prepare to provide another fun-filled December of good times, tradition, and holiday spirit, we want YOU to help us in the process.On August 23 at 5:30 PM, we will be hosting an informational public meeting to involve the community in our planning and implementation process for the festival. We will be at 228 Adams St, the home of Two/Two/Eight Gallery.We hope to see you there and be sure to RSVP at Hometown Holiday Celebration Kick-Off Meeting.
United for Kids
The United Way is looking for donations for school children across Marion, Webster, Barbour, and Tucker counties. They are in need of items such as clothing and personal hygiene items to distribute to children in need of them in the 50 schools in the area. If you are able to donate you can drop your items at the collection box at 221 Washington Street in Fairmont, or order directly off of their Amazon wish list, so it is delivered right to them!More information about the project, what to donate, and ways to donate can be found HERE

Native American Appreciation Days
Native American Appreciation Days sponsored by The Marion County Historical Society is back on August 9th and 10th from 10:30 - 4!!The Hosts, John H. and Stormy Brasuk, will feature the history of the Native Americans of the Eastern Woodlands and (West) Virginia.There will be a large display of items used by the Native People and display Boards with examples of the history dating back 400 years. Stormy will also demonstrate hand beading work. Stormy traces her Heritage back to the Lenape (also known as the Delaware) TribeThe event is free and is held at the Marion County Courthouse at 211 Adams Street.If you have any questions call 304-367-5398
Cultivate Fairmont
Join the Cultivate WV - Fairmont team on Thursday August 8th from 5:30 - 7:30 at Pavilion 1 in Windmill Park for a Cultivate Fairmont session!Cultivate sessions are open and welcome to all folks. It's a space for us to learn and play, and make things happen in Fairmont. Bring your friends and families! There will be free ice cream this month.Do you have an idea for a community project? Share your pitch and listen to others as we begin conversations about the upcoming mini-grant opportunities. We will also work on asset mapping, and identifying partnerships.
